The pilot has been filmed and the trailers are online, finally we all get a sneak look at Community starring Joel McHale.

The cast line up is superb with super star Chevy Chase (who is awesome as Pierce in the preview featurette) and actors Daniel Pudi (Abed), Gillian Jacobs (Britta), John Oliver (Duncan), Donald Glover (Troy), and Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley).

Joel plays Jeff a lawyer whose degree was found to be fraudulent and is forced to go to Community college to get a real degree.

The role suits him as he brings his own overly confident sarcastic wit to the character which Soup fans will love, and new viewers will be won over by his softer side as we see the character struggle with how his life is progressing.

The pilot see’s the group come together to study Spanish in a very Breakfast Club like fashion as they start to learn more about each other and themselves.

Here’s an except from a recent interview with Joel McHale regarding Community (source http://www.hearsay.cc/blog/?p=1390)

What’s going on with your pilot, Community?
I think the final cut gets delivered to the network next week. We still don’t know if it’s been picked up or not. Chevy Chase is in it. It’s just crazy. We shot this thing and it took us ten days. I was like “That’s Chevy Chase right there.” I was like, :Holy crap! It’s Chevy Chase.” I play this lying and cheating DUI lawyer. The bar finds out he lied about his college degree and throws him out. He’s got four years to get a degree or banned. I go back to community college and I try to lie and cheat and steal my way through that. I kind of realize the error of my ways. It’s me trying to undo all the nasty lying cheating things I did during my life. Chevy Chase plays this really great, creepy old man.

Sounds a bit like My Name is Earl.
It’s more along the lines of Arrested Development. But My Name is Earl is great. Jason Lee and that whole cast is great. To get a show just picked up is a monumental achievement in my book. I think Seinfeld said to do what he did on television was like hitting four grand slams in Yankee Stadium. It’s so rare that a show stays on air for that long. You just pray that it works. There are so many factors that contribute to keeping The Soup on the air. We were on for a year before we worked out the kinks, like me not being able to read a teleprompter. I had a ball doing the pilot. Let’s hope we’ll have another conversation about it in like five months.
